How does the B1 course at IFU work?

The lessons are clearly structured and varied. Each week we focus on a topic that really helps you in everyday life or at work: conversations with colleagues, doctor’s visits, travelling, job interviews, discussions about current topics. You’ll get plenty of opportunities for speaking, writing, reading and listening—actively, not just passively. Our teachers motivate you to see mistakes as a chance to learn. With role plays, group work, dialogue training and real-life examples, you’ll become more confident—step by step. You learn at your own pace, but never alone.
Which materials and methods do we use?
In the B1 course we work with modern course books and a wide range of materials. You get everything you need: course book, worksheets, listening texts, digital exercises—all included in the price. Lessons combine classic methods with interactive formats: discussions, pair work, practical writing tasks, exam training. We also use films, newspaper articles and interviews. Our experienced teachers ensure lively, hands-on lessons that not only teach knowledge but also make you want to speak.

What are the goals of the B1 German course?
The goal of the B1 course is that, by the end, you can express yourself independently, fluently and correctly in German—both orally and in writing. You will be able to:

- hold conversations, e.g. with colleagues or at public offices,
- express your own opinions,
- understand and write texts,
- present yourself confidently in the B1 exam (ÖIF or ÖSD).
B1 is the threshold to independent language use—you learn to actively participate in conversations and understand more complex content.
Does the course prepare you for the B1 exam?
Yes—our course includes focused exam training for the B1 German exam, whether ÖIF, ÖSD or Goethe. You will get to know all exam formats: writing (e.g. a formal email), listening (e.g. interviews), reading (understanding texts), speaking (interview & monologue). We run simulations under real exam conditions, provide feedback and practical tips. You’ll feel more confident and know exactly what matters in the exam. Many of our participants pass the B1 exam straight after the course—because they are well prepared.

Why is the B1 course particularly worthwhile?

B1 is an important milestone, especially for work, studies or life in Austria. Many authorities and employers require a B1 certificate—for example for naturalisation, residence permit extensions or job applications. B1 also opens the door to greater independence: you can move confidently in everyday life, actively take part in conversations and express your opinion clearly. With our B1 German course in Vienna, you gain not only knowledge but also confidence in your language skills—for the next steps in your life.
